Lumber list for Febuary.

The first thing I want to show is what I mean when I talk about natural color.
 natural color
 all white
Close up of natural color.

These are some pictures of some flame birch.Yellow birch is sorted by color. All white means it is all light colored. Red birch means it is all red or mostly red. Natural color means it has both red and white in it. With maples, like birdseye, you get heartwood , mineral streak, fleck, worm track and probably some other things. You can have it sorted to get all white with no defect. That gets very expensive. I sell most of my material as natural color. I don't have an issue with using stuff like this. Dyes can hide a lot. Or 1 side can be white. I am finding more and more folks like natural color in pieces with a clear finish. Hope that helps answer some questions. Now on to the wood.

First up is a piece of 6/4 birdseye. It is 7" to 10" wide on the narrow side and 10" to 12" wide on the back. It has 2 natural edges. It is 1 and 3/8" thick.

This is the front and back and sides. Its nice and white both sides .
Cost is 95$. It would make a nice hall table or sofa table  top. Great edges. I don't find much 6/4.

Next up is a bookmatched pair of flame birch.

I skim planed these to just over an inch thick. They are both 8' long and one is 11" wide and one is 11.75" wide. Beautiful figure and color. You can see the red heart in some of it.
Price is 97$ plus shipping.

Next up is a 2 piece book match of soft curly maple. These have a big heartwood color in them, but the figure is wonderful. They are 11" and 13" wide and 8' long.

Again these are skip planed. Nice wide curl that runs all accross the board. The heart is a light brownish color. 80$ plus shipping for the pair.

Last up is a piece of birdseye. 1" thick, just under 8' long. 1 natural edge. The best part of the board would yield a piece 12" wide and about 5' long. The bottom part of the board is ugly. The best part would make a great sofa or hall table.

Its all white on the best side. I took enough pictures to show all the defects. It is a beauty. 90$ plus shipping.

I will send out the newsletter and refer back to this blog. If you would like to be on the list, email me, bob@bobkloes.com
I will have some other things listed in the letter. Hope you are having a good time in the shop.

January wood sale pictures and stuff.

Hello folks, hope you are having a slight bit better winter then we are. Lots of snow and bitter cold. Got ice all over the roads and driveway. Hate walking on that crap.

Anyway, got some pictures of some stuff and will send out the email to the folks that want it. if you want to be included on the wood emails I send, just let me know. Go to my web site,
www.bobkloes.com and click the email link. Send me a note saying you want to be put on the list for wood sales. That's all it takes.

Not much for pictures , but these are some of the piles of material I have.
These 2 pictures are some stuff I set aside for box guys. There is an assortment of spalted birch, spalted maple, "karolien" maple, which usually comes from Sibera of all places. Plus some odd stuff I am not sure what to call it. Some are wide, some run 4" to 6" wide.
Here again is a picture of the stack of box stuff. 90$ for a  20 ft bundles. Plus shipping.

This is a picture of a pile of 4/4 birdseye. All rough. Mostly white 1 side, some heart on the other. Runs 4" to 8" wide. 90$ for a 20 ft bundle. Plus shipping.

This is a stack of 12/ 4 curly maple that has some color. Not the highest figure, but its nice, has reddish heart on some sides. I used this for bed post material for the bed I made for my wife. She loved it. Not sure how much shipping is on tall bed post stock, but I can see. You should get 2.5" to 2.75" square stock out this this material. I do have some with bark on if you want some odd pieces. I normally sell bed post stock for 12$ ft. This is going to sell  for half that, 6$ board foot.

This is a pile of 8/4 birdseye. All nice figure, some heartwood on the back side on some of this. It cut thick. Most is 2.25" and thicker. Normally 10$ board foot. This month only, 8$ board foot. Its very heavy and has some twist in it, but for leg stock or small tops, its great.
This is 4/4 hard curly maple. For 4" to 8" wide stock its 5$ ft. For wide stock 9" to 13" wide, it 9$ board foot. This is the hardest stuff to find. Much harder then even birdseye. This stock was all sanded to 15/16". The picture doesn't show it, but it has really nice figure. The wide stuff is excellent for music instruments. Just very hard to find.
This is a pile of wide [9" and wider ] birdseye, 4/4 stock. It starts at 7$ board foot and goes up. Its usually white one side. Due to how far in the tree you have to get for wide stock, its almost impossible to have it white on both sides. Then again, for all the furniture I have made, I am not sure if I ever cared if it was white on 2 sides. This is the top of the line wide , good figured birdseye. One thing I have always seen in the birdseye, is it tends to fade out towards 1 end. It doesn't do that in curly.
This is a pile of 8/4 soft curly maple. I have square edged stock and natural edged stock. It runs 100$ plus shipping for 20 ft packs. Nice for lots of stuff. Great figure and usually has some color on the back side. The natural edged stuff make really nice table tops when you rip 1 edge and glue pieces together.

This is the 4/4 soft curly maple. 75$ for 20 board feet, plus shipping. Nice figure, easy to work .
See the newsletter for some other things for sale.

December Wood Sale Info

I am trying something new. Hope you all like it. I am adding some pictures and descriptions of the wood I carry for sale. I hope this makes me add more of these, as I have been kind of lax. Sorry about that.
I am getting into the addition we started in the fall. Have one more garage door to go. Dang its cold out. It 15 below with the wind chill right now. Its about 20 in the addition, so its not bad. I am showing a couple log sets this time . I did not plane anything yet. If you are interested, I can do a board and show that to you on the blog or by email.

The first set is all hard curly or tiger maple, 1 " thick. They run 9" to 14" wide. A total of 46 board feet. There is some mineral stain on some of the boards. I am showing the front and back so you can see. The figure is very tight and pronounced. Great for guitars or furniture or other instruments. This came off an island in Michigan on a small lake. The birdseye is from the same island. 400$ plus shipping. I can cut to smaller lengths to save on shipping. I will also plane it to thickness if you want at no charge.

Next up is a set of birdseye maple boards. They all contain some mineral streaking. Both sides are shown. There is a total of 7 boards, all between 9" and 11" wide. 44 board feet. Very nice figure, but they do have color in them , mostly on the back sides.
350$ plus shipping. They can be planed at no charge and cut down to save on delivery cost.
Above is a pile of 4/4 birdseye maple, random widths, mostly white, but some contain some mineral streaks or a bit of heart.
90$ for 20 board feet, plus shipping
Above is some 8/4 soft curly or tiger maple. Some has some heart on the back side, but they all have excellent figure. 100$ for 20 board ft, plus shipping.

Here are a couple views of the addition. Lots of wood waiting to get in here and sorted out.  A couple other things, I have a small amount of 6/4 plain cherry. Very nice stock, wide, most is 10" plus.
5.75 board foot. I do have some 8/4 hard curly maple for the music guys. It starts at 7$ board foot and goes up for widths over 8" wide.
Perfect for the guitars and violins and banjos. Email me or feel free to call. 920-833-7157
